How to choose a memorable username

Your handle is the one part of a profile people can't change often. A few rules that hold up:

1. Keep it short enough to say out loud. Under about 15 characters is the sweet spot — longer handles get cut off in story mentions and tag lists.
2. Pick one separator and stick with it. Mixing . and _ in the same handle is how people end up at the wrong account.
3. Put the important word first. Instagram search weights the username heavily, so lead with your niche or name, not a filler prefix.
4. Numbers are fine sparingly. mira.ceramics reads as a brand; mira.ceramics8472 reads as a bot. Use a meaningful number or none.
5. Check it before you fall in love. Search the exact handle on Instagram — and check the profile URL — because suggestions here are ideas, not availability checks.
6. Match it across platforms. The same handle everywhere makes you easy to find and hard to impersonate.

Instagram usernames run 1–30 characters and may only contain letters, periods and underscores — no trailing period, no two periods in a row. Every suggestion here is filtered against those rules before it reaches you.
